WHAT IS JIG BORING?

Jig boring is a machining process that enlarges the existing holes in a part. Typical drills are not capable of making holes with a high amount of precision. While the size and location of a drilled hole may look fine to the naked eye, being off by as little as a hundredth of an inch can make a big difference in the performance of the part. Additionally, if a part’s design has more than one hole, the spacing between the holes becomes another element that requires precise measurement. When the size, location, and spacing between holes in a part have a high tolerance, the precision of a jig bore can ensure that tolerance is satisfied.
